Monthly Archives: June 2016
In order to retain our green flag status for the fourth time, we have been undertaking a number of initiatives to fulfil the requirements of the award.
We now have dedicated paper recycling facilities in each classroom with monitors emptying them on a regular basis. Members of the Eco-School Committee wash and recycle milk and yoghurt pot containers from snack and lunch breaks.
Gardening and Wildlife
As part of the Shobdon Food and Flying Festival, we have grown plants to form an additional wildlife garden. With trees donated from The Woodland Trust, we have had parents, children and staff volunteer their time to plant 220 trees on the edge of our Forest School area.
We have taken part in the Pod’s energy saving fortnight, conducting surveys in school to see how much energy we can save by turning off lights and appliances when they are not in use. We found that over 2 weeks we saved 56kWh! Monitors will help keep the initiative running.
